Disasters (2010- )
Disasters is an ongoing series depicting past and present calamities. Obviously influenced and inspired by Goya's Disasters of War, this series represents my reactions to the unstable and violent state of the world in the 20th and 21st centuries.
I find that the traditional Asian medium on sumie ink and watercolor on paper to be an expressive vehicle to convey this vision. Ink can be subtle and dynamic at the same time, and the unpredictability of the medium adds to the uncertainty about the depicted events.
